BELINDA TEH

I completed my Bachelor of Laws in 2016, and was convinced that being a lawyer wasn’t for me.

I was planning a different career path altogether when my mother was suddenly diagnosed with a terminal illness. Over the next few years, I observed how assisted dying legislation operated in other jurisdictions around the world, then walked from Melbourne to Perth hosting community forums about the 2019 WA Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill to draw media attention to the issue.

Following this, I engaged with state politicians, health care providers and lobby groups to encourage public debate, and advocated for end-of-life law reform on platforms including Insight SBS, The Australian, Network Ten’s The Project and delivered a TED Talk. As public support grew, I was invited to speak at events hosted by the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners, the WA State Library and the UWA Law School.

After a unified community effort, the bill passed and in 2020, I was nominated for Young Australian of the Year for my advocacy during the campaign.

Following this, I joined Croftbridge as a clerk, and was admitted in 2023. I currently spend my time assisting the team primarily in Supreme Court litigation and administrative law matters in the Administrative Appeals Tribunal.

When I’m not at work, you will find me on my yoga mat or exploring the Perth Hills.
